To progress as a freelancer, you need to find the best jobs that are suitable for your expertise and experience level. The right jobs will help you climb up the freelance ladder and slowly make a name for yourself within Pakistan’s ever-growing freelance community!

There are several things you can do and look out for to find the best gigs and we’re here to break them down for you:

Communicating your skills in a strong profile

This may seem obvious but within the Pakistani freelancing industry, a lot of freelancers actually find it difficult to communicate their skillset and experience in a clear and attractive way. This is often due to a lack of proficiency in English or a lack of knowledge on how to sell yourself to clients from around the world.

A few simple ways to level up your freelancing profile include:

Making a great portfolio

Freelancers in Pakistan aren’t taught about the importance of creating and showcasing a portfolio to potential clients. A portfolio is a collection of your best work, and it gives clients an idea of the quality and style of your work. A few ways to create a strong portfolio include selecting your best work, including a variety of different types of projects and adding detailed descriptions of your role in each project.

Search on the right websites

There are so many websites out there catered specifically for freelancers that can help you find the jobs most suited to your expertise. Upwork, Freelancer and Fiverr are some of the most popular ones for freelancing gigs, but you can also use LinkedIn and Indeed to expand your job search.

The AI-powered search engine on these websites gives you the ability to toggle the exact settings that you want so that you can discover the types of jobs you’re looking for. Along with this, making use of the feed on websites such as Upwork is extremely useful. The feed is constantly updating with new job postings that are relevant to your search. By regularly checking the feed, you can stay up to date on new job opportunities. Make sure to carefully review the job description and requirements before applying so that you only apply for those jobs that you’re qualified for.

Find opportunities through networking

When you network with other freelancers, you have the opportunity to learn about new job opportunities and get advice from other freelancers about where to find work. There are a lot of freelancer-specific communities in Pakistan, particularly on Facebook and WhatsApp. Aside from joining these communities, you can also connect with various freelancers on LinkedIn to start conversations and get insight from their experiences.

Not only can networking help you learn about how to find the best gig, it can also introduce you to potential clients and offer you an opening to ask for recommendations and help you learn about other successful freelancers within your niche who you can potentially connect with.

Above all, be persistent!

Finding the best freelancing job can take time and you might need to apply for several before landing the right one for you. Don’t get discouraged, and keep trying!

Remember, the key to finding a great freelancing job is to know what you’re good at and to be proactive in searching for work. Even if you don’t get a particular job, you can still learn from the experience of applying and use this experience to improve your chances of being hired for future jobs. With a little bit of effort and persistence, you can find the perfect job for you
